About Me

Howdy. Thanks for visiting my Web site.

As I’m sure you’ve already figured out, my name’s Ty Stockton. I’m currently the Wyoming Wildlife News editor and the Wyoming Wildlife magazine associate editor for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. At least, that’s where my steady paycheck comes from.

During my spare time, I’m an amateur photographer, focusing mainly on wildlife, as that’s where my interests tend to lead me most often. I also try to do a little freelance writing in the form of columns about outdoor sports and observations on parenthood. For the outdoor writing, I try to get out in the field and do as much research as I can get away with. For the parenting stories, I get more material than I can use from my own kids.

The kids tend to limit the time I have available to go hunting, fishing, camping and hiking right now. My wife Amy and I have two young sons, Colby and Logan. Colby is three years old, and Logan’s a year and a half.

We also have a one-year-old golden retriever, whose training as a bird dog has only just begun. When she’s not being trained, the Australian shepherd/husky cross keeps her occupied, so she’s not as demanding of our time as the children are.

But then there are the horses. We’re down to two, which is a good number, but it still involves a lot of work. When we’re not feeding them, hauling hay for them, cleaning up after them, trimming their hooves, putting shoes on or taking shoes off, or having the vet come out to look into any number of equine ailments, we do our best to get on ‘em and take a ride now and then.

Between the day job, the freelance stuff, the kids, dogs and horses, I’ve given up sleep. So if any of the ramblings on these pages sounds as though it came from an addled mind, there’s probably good reason.

Please enjoy your stay on my site. If you like what you see, check out some of the publications and radio stations that originally published the works. Or better yet, hire me to write or take photos for you.

In the meantime, I’ll do my best to get outside now and then and compile information to use in upcoming stories. Maybe I’ll see you out there.
